So how are we earth-friendly?

Earth-friendly takes work and time. It also takes thought and planning. EarthSmart is in continuous improvement mode with our product line.

Where and when...
We manufacture all of our shutters in the U.S.A. Our Madera wood comes from overseas because that is where it grows. Madera wood, is not endangered and is one of the most earth-beneficial trees on the planet. Why is that?

The trees that produce Madera wood lumber put nutrients back into the soil. So much so that they are inter-cropped with crops like soy bean, corn, beans, wheat, etc.

EarthSmart's Madera wood lumber comes from trees that regrow themselves in less than 10 years to heights in excess of 100 feet. The Madera timber comes as a result of reforestation efforts to ensure that for every tree that is cut down, more are planted in it's stead and then assigned caretakers to ensure proper growth.

All the trees used for Madera wood and bamboo are grown according to government reforestation regulations. Replantation schedules are strictly maintained and timber hauling is such to prevent damage to the surroundings.

We work closely with government forestry institutions to make sure that what we are using is in compliance with reforestation efforts.

No dangerous conditions
We do not permit any kind of hazardous working conditions in our overseas workplaces and have assisted in the mill designs to ensure our standards are met.

Earth-safe finishes
We use finishes that are waterborne, earth and human safe, with no VOC emissions. Those that spray on the finish coats do not require protective masks because they are so safe.

Moving to biodegradable
We are just starting to eliminate use of plastic wrap and replace it with biodegradable packaging. It hasn't happened yet, but that's the next important step for us. The rest of our packaging is earth-friendly and biodegradable.
